How to make a heron (a wading bird) on a river bank at sunset from oil pastels color
Hello friends, Here's an easy-peasy tutorial for painting a heron with oil pastels. The goal of this tutorial is to give you a step-by-step example of how to make a painting of a heron standing on riverbank at sunset time . We hope you find your artistic side through this tutorial.
Required materials -
- Canvas Paper
- Oil pastels color
- Masking tape
- Pencil
- Sharpner
- Eraser
- Cotton or tissue paper
- Paper clipboard
Follow these steps after sticking the edges of a piece of paper on the clipboard with masking tape.
Step - 1 Make Sky top view
Using ultramarine blue color, rub it smoothly over the top part of the paper as shown in the picture.
As shown in the image below, make a strip of the Cerulean Blue color that is approximately the same width as the strip above.
Using pink color, color the same size part as before and blend smoothly using cotton or a piece of tissue paper.
Step - 2 Make horizontal between sky and river
At the mid-section of the paper, draw a horizontal line (thin from the middle and thick from the edges) in Prussian blue.
Step - 3 Make Sky bottom view
Now make two red arcs in the shape looks as greater than symbol between the horizontal line and the sky top view, and also make a thick line between the two arcs from the right side.
Now apply lemon yellow color in the remaining area of sky
Now apply deep yellow over the pink color as shown in picture below.
Between the horizontal line and the bottom of the sky, apply pink color.
At last, to finish the sky background, blend the colours smoothly using a piece of tissue paper. ( Fold a piece of tissue paper into the shape of a fingernail and hold it between finger and thumb to rub the paper.)
Between the deep yellow and lemon yellow , apply pink color.
Step - 4 Make river with reflection of sky
Apply pink color below the horizontal line.
Apply the red color as shown below.
Now use yellow and pink as depicted in the picture below.
Mix the colors smoothly as shown below.
Step - 5 Make edge of river (Final touch-up of oil pastels)
Now, from light blue and ultramarine blue, make the same-size strip at the bottom part of the paper as shown below.
As shown below, combine the colors smoothly. We created a beautiful scene of a sunset at a lake in oil pastel colours; now, in the next steps, we will use pencil.
Step - 6 Draw a heron ( wading bird)
Draw the heron bird using a pencil as shown in the picture below.
Step - 7 Make darken the shape of heron
Now darken the complete shape of the bird and draw the legs accurately as shown. Also, make a reflection of the legs in the water. This will give the bird a more realistic look and make it appear as though it is standing in the water. The reflection of the legs will also add depth to the drawing, making it look more realistic and giving it a 3D effect.
Step - 9 Final step
We have completed the painting. In the final step, safely remove masking tape from the edges. Removing the masking tape too quickly or too harshly can peel off the newly painted surface, ruining the finished project. It is important to remove masking tape slowly and gently to avoid damaging the paint.
The following is a visual representation of all the steps:
Congratulations! Using oil pastels, we created a beautiful painting of a heron standing along a riverbank.
