How to make a rhinoceros eating grass at sunset in the jungle from oil pastel colors

Hello friends, this is an easy-peasy tutorial for painting a rhinoceros eating grass at sunset near a tree using oil pastels. In this tutorial, we will show you how to make the painting of the rhinoceros eating grass near a tree in the jungle at sunset. We will walk you through the different steps of drawing the rhinoceros, including sketching the outline, adding shapes and details, and shading the drawing. We will also provide tips on how to use the oil pastels to create the desired colors and textures. Finally, we will explain how to add the details of the tree and the setting sun to complete the painting. Hopefully, this tutorial will inspire your creative side as well.

Required materials -

  • Canvas Paper
  • Oil pastels color
  • Masking tape
  • Pencil
  • Sharpner
  • Eraser
  • Cotton or tissue paper
  • Paper clipboard
Stick masking tape around the edges of a piece of paper on the clipboard as this will create a barrier that will keep the paper in place and not move as you work on it. It also helps reduce the risk of paper slipping off the clipboard and falling to the ground. Now further follow these steps-

Step - 1 Apply masking tape in disc shape

First of all ,to make the sun's shape, take a piece of masking tape paste it smoothly on the a flat surface and cut it into a disc shape using cork or any other samll disc object and cutter.
Now safely remove it from that flat surface and apply it to the middle of the canvas paper.

Step - 2 Create a sunset-themed sky

We are making a landscape sunset painting, so the sky should look like it represents the sunset. For this, first apply permanent red colour as shown below.

After applying the red colour, you should then add orange, brown and lemon yellow shades to the mix to create a more natural look. This will create the illusion of the sun setting in the sky as the colours gradually blend together. By adding the orange and brown shades, the red colour will be softened and blended with the other colours, creating a realistic sunset look. The lemon yellow will then be used to lighten the mix, creating the illusion of the sun gradually sinking towards the horizon.

Step - 3 Give the sunset a smooth look

Now blend the colours using cotton or tissue paper. If the colours are not perfectly blended, then you can apply more colour. I applied the red and lemon yellow colours again and blended them again. This step gives a realistic look to the sunset sky.

Step - 4 Make a ground on the bottom side of the paper

The ground and other objects appear black during sunset, so now, using black colour, spread it on the remaining lower part of the canvas sheet. This is because during sunset, the light from the sun is less intense and the shadows appear darker. The black colour will help to create the illusion of darkness and shadows, and will make the painting look more realistic.

Step - 5 Draw grass and tree and darken them

Now, using a pencil, make the tree's stem and branches outline on the ground on the left side.

Now, with the help of a pencil, darken the stem and branches and add more branches and leaves as shown in the image below. By darkening the stem and branches, you will be able to clearly define the structure of the tree and the various branches and leaves that make up its form. Adding more branches and leaves will create a fuller, more detailed image of your tree.

Finally, to make the grass, using the pencil to randomly draw squiggly thick lines on the ground.

Step - 6 Draw a rhinoceros and darken them

Now,begin by sketching the head and body of the rhinoceros, making sure to give it a curved back and large horns. Draw the legs and feet next, then draw the grass around the animal. Use shading to darken the rhinoceros and make it look like it is eating the grass.

Step - 7 Make flying birds in the sky

Using your pencil, depict nine birds flying in the sky at sunset. Draw each bird in a V shape and in different positions, with some flying higher than others and some flying lower.

Step - 8 Complete the drawing of the sun

Now remove the disc-shaped masking tape from the middle of the paper. You can use tweezers to grab the edges of the tape and slowly pull it off. You can also use a blade to gently scrape away the tape, being careful not to damage the paper.

After removing the tape, we found a complete white circular shape, which represents the sun. To give it a sunset look, using lemon yellow colour, make yellow half the lower part of this circle and also apply yellow colour to the circumference. By adding the yellow color to the lower half and circumference of the circle it creates a warm, fading effect that resembles a sunset. This helps to bring the image to life and create a more realistic representation of the sun setting.

Step - 9 Final step

Now in the last step, draw three birds flying upwards just in front of the sun, as shown in the picture below. These birds are intended to represent freedom, hope, and joy which is what the sun in the background symbolizes. The idea is to create a sense of optimism and positivity.

Our painting project is complete. At last, to remove the tape from the edges of the paper, start by pulling the tape off slowly, making sure to keep it at a 45-degree angle with the painted surface. This will help keep the paint from coming off with the tape. If the tape starts to pull off any paint, stop immediately and try again with a gentler approach.
